Soulfully Nostalgic Music with a Modern Flair
“I always loved to listen to music and sing.  It wasn’t until I took off hitch-hiking in
1971, that I actually started writing songs.  At that time, with all my thoughts and
emotions in a whirl, I found a way to express myself, to let things out, and to laugh at
the situation.  At the same time I created lyrics and melodies that people could relate
to.  Using my guitar (I could carry it with me wherever I went), I experimented with a
variety of styles, chord progressions, rhythms, key changes.  My earliest writing
influences were Carole King, Carly Simon, Laura Nyro, and Joni Mitchell.  Most of
my songs then reflected my loneliness, search for love, need for friendship.  Though it
occurred to me to record some of my songs, I let my emotions lead me wherever I went
and pursued love & happiness over stardom.  In 1976 I was writing & performing
regularly and did copyright a number of songs and recorded a demo though I didn't
actively market the music.  A few years later, my energy was focused on caring for and
raising my daughter.  Still, when I was particularly moved, upset, “in-love” (or
thought so), or some unusual or catchy brainstorm entered my mind, I did put the pen
or pencil to paper.  My production was minimal in the 1980s & 1990s and in 1992 I lost
my father who was a strong influence & supporter of my music and life.  It took a
while to recover, but I started to pull myself together late in the 1990s.  As 2001 began,
my brain came alive with lyric production!  My thoughts on just about everything I
saw, heard, felt became viable lyrics, and sometimes the music caught up.

My songs today are still about love.  They reflective better,  calmer, and sometimes
more spiritual choices though I also write about struggles I sense in others.  I have re-
worked some of my earlier music & lyrics while also writing new material.  Seeking
peer support I joined the
Central Carolina Songwriters' Association and started
Triangle Creative Professionals Meetup
.

Reviving my hopes to publish, record, and sell recording rights to my material, I was
finally motivated to act (at age 55).  I invested in studio time to prepare my first CD,
"Renewed", which was released October of 2007.  "Renewed" contains small common
threads of blues & jazz, but each song & arrangement has it's own unique appeal.
Find some gritty blues, mellow jazz, a folky lullaby, a sultry Latin piece, and a few
jagged edges of rock & roll.  Top that off with a contemporary ballad and there is
something for everyone!

From there, it seems I just can't stop!  I make many trips to the studio & have 2
subsequent EP releases I call "gift CDs".
"Love Trilogy in 3/4 Time" was released
2/2010 and
"Seasonal Sentiments" in 11/2010.  Some singles are completed as well.
Some songs written for children (by my alter-ego
Grandma Paula) will be available
soon.  Find audio downloads & CD information here & at my new Creative Talented
