Well, you told me that you loved me on the first night we met
And I turned up my nose.
You said you’d never leave me – you were lonely too
(I thought “another one of those”)
Well, you gave me a surprise when you looked into my eyes
So, we let our feelings grow.
Now you’re gone, but you say you want me there…
Why do you keep me hangin’ on?
Well, you say to call you Tuesday, but you’re never home
(Wednesday and Thursday too).
Then you say to call you Friday, and you’re all alone
(and I hear something new).
Well, you gave me a surprise when you told me all those lies,
So we let our feelings go.
And you’re really gone. You don’t want me anymore…
Why do you keep me hangin’ on?
I finally got in touch with you to tell you how I feel,
(And let it out all right)
You didn’t say a word (I don’t even think you heard)
Then you just said: “Sit tight”
And you gave me a surprise when your telling me those lies
So I’ve let my feelings go
I don’t know if we’re done,
You keep telling me “hang on”
Why do you keep me hangin’
Why do you keep me hangin’
Why do you keep me hangin’ on?
