Independence Day Blues

Lying in bed alone, it's the 4th of July
Nothing to do, no new thing to try.
And, wondering, "where's my guy"?
So, I removed his rings, all of his things
I've got the Independence Day Blues.

In my aloneness I've done my wandering,
writing, laughing, pondering
And curiosity's gotten me trying.
So, I've done many things, crazy things.
I've got the Independence Day Blues.

Broken from family ties, learning life, finding lies -
passing loves, and sad goodbyes
Prying into my mind and my heart for the right thing to do.
I've been gifted with thought and a loving heart.
Well, I've known the right thing to do.
I've known the right thing.  Yes, the right thing to do.

Still, I'm lying alone on the 4th of July.
No thought on what to do, what new thing to try.
Gave up completely on my guy,
So, I've removed his rings, all of his things
I've got the Independence Day Blues
I've got the Independence Day Blues.
I've got the Independence Day Blues.
I've got the Independence Day Blues.
